When you are going to choose the motherboard, you have to take in account 2 points at first:
1) The Socket: The socket is where the processor goes. every class of processor has it own type of socket, for example: the Amd Ryzen 5 1600 processor has the Am4 socket.
2) The Type of RAM memory that supports: Nowadays are four kinds of RAM, DDR1, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4. being DDR1 the oldest and DDR4 the newest. So you must take in account which RAM you are going to buy.
And there is a third point, and that is in case you want to buy a Video card so
3) The video Card: You must see what kind of input has it (Psi express, Psi 3.0, etc...)
